What is the central idea of your concentration?
A emphasis of the contrasts between males and females using tools and flowers.
How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. When referencing specific images, please indicate the image numbers.
The work in my concentration demonstrates the exploration of my idea through emphasizing the differences between males and females with objects.
I looked at the stereotypes of men and women to choose these objects. Men can be represented through certain colors like blue, activities like sports, or labels like "mr.fix it" (this, specifically, lead me to using tools in my work). While women can be represented by pink, cooking, or being dainty like flowers (my second inspiration). Combining these two elements, I started with the idea of how different men and women are. This can be seen clearly in the piece with the daisy poking out of the sharp scissors or the piece with the black wrench contrasting the large white flower. Towards the end of my concentration I started to play with the concept that although men and women may be different, they are parts of the same whole. I titled my work "sweet fixin's" for this realization I made while creating these works of art.

I feel that I have completed my concentration and am ready to move on to something new. I have 12 block pieces that show growth and the theme of my concentration. I liked trying out watercolor but want to keep painting on canvas. I love painting flowers and want to continue! Without tools! I have found that layering can really make a piece interesting. I love the one I did that Allison is modeling (attached)
